For the first time in its history, Peugeot has attempted to set a record on the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife track in Germany. Not for the usual record though, but one for electric vehicles. Stéphane Caillet, driver and tuner-technician from the company’s R&D Centre, used the EX1 Concept Car to cover the circuit’s 20.832 km and beat the electric speed record.
The EX1 put in a lap time of 9:01.338 at an average speed of 138.324 km/h despite unfavourable weather conditions. The previous EV record on this circuit was the 9:51.45 lap of a race prepared MINI E set last year.

The EX1 is a two-seat roadster powered by electric motors (one for each axle) producing 340 hp and driving all four wheels. The motors are fed by 30 kWh lithium ion batteries. The whole thing weighs just 750 kg thanks to carbon fibre construction.
With its 73 bends and 300 metres of altitude difference, the Nordschleife has a reputation for being the toughest circuit in the world.
